HUMANITARIAN RESPONSE:

  • In 2011–12, VICALP initiated its first Humanitarian Relief and Rehabilitation programme, dubbed the "Basic Needs and Livelihoods Early Recovery Programme in Jajpur–Odisha," in five of the most affected villages in the Bari block of the district of Jajpur–Odisha. This initiative was made possible with support from Christian Aid–New Delhi.
  • VICALP was actively involved in relief efforts following Cyclone Phailin in Ganjam and the Odisha coast during 2013–14. With the assistance of Christian Aid/ECHO, VICALP started an early recovery project. Through this, it implemented Cash for Work, Unconditional Cash Transfer, water and sanitation projects, and livelihood restoration initiatives in 17 villages in Ganjam district and 7 villages in Balasore district. This has been VICALP's new focus, which has improved the organization's efficiency and knowledge base so that it can provide relief and humanitarian aid. Based on its experience and institutional expertise VICALP has involved itself in partnership with other NGOs in Post-Disaster-Response activities such as Hudhud, Titli.
